About the Body Fluid Exposure Module

Use the Body Fluid Exposure module to record any exposure or needle stick by an employee. An exposure will usually be to a body fluid, such as blood or sputum.

Two or more employees may be involved in an exposure. For the purposes of this documentation, the employee exposed is referred to as “EE”, and the person(s) whose body fluids the EE was exposed to is referred to as the “source.”

The module collects information on the exposure, the exposure source, what caused the exposure, specific sharps information, any testing done on the source and the EE, as well as any medications the EE may be prescribed because of the exposure.

This module is linked with the Demographics, Clinical Testing, Case Management, Incident, and Immunization modules, and with the employee’s medications.

This chapter explains how to enter the details of a body fluid exposure (see Working with Body Fluid Exposures).

To see the look-up tables used by this module and the reports available, see Module Reference. There may also be system settings that affect your use of this module; for more information, see Changing Your System Settings.
